Every Thing You Could Possibly Want to Know About Upneeq

Beauty innovations are a dime a dozen these days, but there’s one product that caught my eye (no pun intended). Enter: Upneeq, a game-changing eye drop from Osmotica Pharmaceuticals’. Upneeq is FDA-approved, and it works by lifting droopy eyelids. And when I say it works, it works.

Naturally, any beauty treatment that will instate a change, whether short-term, as with these drops, or long-term, comes with a barrage of questions—totally normal.

Before you decide to test out Upneeq for yourself, you’ll want to arm yourself with as much knowledge as possible about the product. Although I’m always an advocate of doing your research and finding treatments that work for you, your lifestyle, and your budget, I also can’t help but share what I know. So here’s everything you could want to know about Upneeq.

CAN IT REPLACE THE NEED FOR AN EYE LIFT?

While Upneeq isn’t a replacement for blepharoplasty or any other doctor-administered age-reversing treatments, it does provide an immediate lifting effect by increasing the distance between the upper and lower lids to show more of the white and colored part of the eyes.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The main ingredient in Upneeq is oxymetazoline hydrochloride, which is also found in Visine and Rofade (in a different composition). This ingredient stimulates the Muller muscle, a smooth muscle on the backside of the inner upper eyelid, to contract for a more wide-eyed and open appearance.

IS IT SAFE TO USE EVERY DAY?

Yes, but it’s not necessary to use it daily. But, of course, if you like the effects that much, you can safely use it every day. Or, you can use it for special occasions, as I do.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WORK? AND HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

Upneeq is relatively fast-acting, but everyone responds differently. On average, most users see its lifting effect take five to 15 minutes after using the drops (in some, it can take longer to work).

The effects of Upneeq are not permanent and last six to eight hours.

WILL IT WORK IF MY EYES ARE A LITTLE SAGGY?

The nice thing about Upneeq is that you don’t have to have seriously saggy eyelids for it to work. It does the job well on those with mild to moderate upper eyelid sagging or eyes that look ‘sleepy.’ However, you always want to make sure the drooping isn’t related to a medical condition.

CAN IT REVERSE THE EFFECTS OF BAD BOTOX?

If your neuromodulator has done you wrong (which is likely the case of poor injection technique or improper dosing), your injector may recommend Upneeq to correct a droopy eyelid. However, this technique only works when the neuromodulator affects the upper lids. You’ll also have to wait for the effects of the neuromodulator to wear away on its own.
